about us

Cane Cult is a story woven from heritage, passion, and a desire to bring timeless craftsmanship to a global audience. Founded by London-born siblings Zully and Jalal, our brand stands as a tribute to the rich traditions of Sri Lankan artistry and the elegance of Japanese minimalism, creating pieces that enhance the beauty of your living spaces.

Our journey began with a serendipitous trip across the enchanting landscapes of Sri Lanka. Zully and Jalal encountered the intricate art of cane weaving—a craft passed down through generations but on the verge of fading away. They met artisans in small workshops, hands deftly transforming local rattan into beautiful, functional pieces yet struggling for recognition and fair compensation. Inspired to preserve this dying art, Zully and Jalal formed a mission: to support these craftsmen and introduce their extraordinary skills to a broader audience.

Design Philosophy

From our origins in cane and rattan, we have expanded our materials to include rich woods such as teak and mahogany and the timeless elegance of marble. This evolution is driven by our commitment to innovation while staying rooted in our core values of quality and sustainability. Every new material we explore is chosen for its natural beauty, durability, and the stories it can tell.

Our design philosophy is shaped by the principles of "Japandi," a harmonious blend of Scandinavian and Japanese design. Both styles celebrate simplicity, functionality, and beauty in nature’s imperfections. We add an industrial touch from London—raw iron accents, exposed elements, and an unmistakable edge that sets Cane Cult apart.

Craftsmanship and Community

At Cane Cult, we believe in slow furniture, where every piece is handcrafted with careful attention to detail. We honour the traditional methods of our artisans, minimising machinery to preserve the integrity and soul of each creation. We are deeply committed to fair pay and ethical practices, understanding that supporting our craftspeople is essential to nurturing their communities and keeping their art alive.
